The NFL's schedule

With the conclusion of the Super Bowl, the NFL goes on a break for about six months, known as the "offseason". The preseason games kick off in mid-August as the preparation games. The stakes aren't too high for these games. Teams use the preseason to test out their new players who are either learning plays or rookies who are sill getting the hang of playing in the big league. That's why there's often upsets by underdog teams.

Following the preseason, all teams play 16 games in the regular season with the aim of qualifying for the playoffs. The teams are divided into two conferences (NFC and AFC / National and American Football Conference), each consisting of four divisions (North, South, East, and West).

The playoffs, also known as the postseason, hosts the eight division winners and the three next-best teams. For all other teams, the season ends at this point.

The playoffs are held in a knockout format. AFC and NFC separately determine their champions in three rounds, who then compete in the Super Bowl.

In the playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl, the team with the better performance in the regular season and higher seed always has home-field advantage.

The schedule for the NFL season 2023 is as follows:

Draft: April 27-29, 2023

Types of NFL betting bonus offers

Sportsbooks in Canada provide various bonuses to incentivize bettors. It's important to familiarize yourself with these types of bonuses because they can significantly increase your earnings.

Here are the common types of bonuses offered by sportsbooks:

  • Welcome Bonuses: These bonuses are for new players first joining a sportsbook. Welcome bonuses can come in various forms, such as matched deposit bonuses where the sportsbook matches a percentage of your initial deposit.
  • Deposit Bonuses: Deposit bonuses are given to existing players the majority of the time. These bonuses can be a percentage match or a fixed amount added to your deposit.
  • Free Bets: With a free bet, the sportsbook gives you a certain amount of money to wager without using your own funds. If your free bet wins, you typically receive the winnings minus the original free bet amount.
  • Risk-Free Bets: As the name suggests, risk-free bets provide a safety net for your wager. If your first bet on an NFL game loses, the sportsbook refunds your stake, either completely or to a certain amount, allowing you to have another go at betting without incurring any major losses.
  • Odds Boosts: Some sportsbooks offer odds boosts on specific games or outcomes. This means that the odds are increased, providing higher payouts.
  • Loyalty Bonuses: Loyalty programs reward players for their continued betting activity. Sportsbooks may offer loyalty bonuses, such as cashback on losses, special promotions, or exclusive bonuses.

Homework before placing a bet

When it comes to placing an NFL bet, there's always some level of risk involved. But fear not! There are plenty of tricks and tips that can increase your chances of success, and that's where having a solid betting strategy comes into play.

One approach is looking at stats. Study historical data, trends, and player performance metrics, and then you can identify patterns to make more accurate predictions.

Before you place your bet look into factors such as injured players, current team form, weather conditions, key trades, historical games, etc.

Another strategy is line shopping. Compare odds across a variety of sportsbooks to look for the most valuable odds for your bets. Different bookmakers offer different odds, so take the time to compare and choose the most favourable ones to help with potential payouts.

Finally, manage your bankroll, know your limits, and most importantly, don't bet with emotion, think logically before every bet!

High Roller & Loyalty Programs

High Roller programs are for the bettors who love to play with high stakes! High Rollers receive exclusive benefits such as very exclusive bonuses, account managers, faster withdrawal times, and even tickets to events such as the Super Bowl!

Loyalty programs are points-based programs. The more you bet, the more points you accumulate. As you climb the ranks, you unlock a variety of rewards such as free football bets, odds boosts, personalized promotions, priority customer support, and exclusive access to events such as an NFL playoff game.

Understanding the conditions for your NFL betting bonus

Understanding the conditions of your NFL bonus is absolute key before redeeming one! Review the terms and conditions for the offer to see if it's fair or better than others

An NFL sports betting bonus often includes four conditions:

- Minimum turnover (rollover)
- Minimum odds requirement
- Specified time limit
- Min. deposit amount

A turnover or rollover is the amount of times you need to wager the deposit and bonus.

Minimum odds is self-explanatory, it's the minimum odds you're allowed to wager with the bonus.

Specified time is the expiration date the bonus has.

If not all, most sportsbooks offer bonuses with a minimum deposit.

Stack up with an NFL reload bonus

Whether you're a seasoned NFL bettor or a newcomer who has already claimed a welcome bonus, reload bonuses help to increase your betting budget. By replenishing your account with funds, sportsbooks reward you with extra bonuses!

Reload bonuses can come in several different forms, mainly:

1. Percentage match
- The percentage your initial deposit will increase by. This value is usually between 50% and 100% of your deposit with a follow-up bonus.

2. Free football bets
- From time to time, betting providers are tempted to offer free bets. Especially before major events, you can see betting providers making incredibly enticing offers. Free bets are betting credits that are granted either with or without a deposit.

3. Odds boost
- Odds boosts increase the standard odds, giving the user higher potential winnings. Example: instead of a -150, you will receive an odds boost making it -300. However, understand that odds boosts are usually very limited when betting.

American football betting: Apart from the NFL, there are also interesting leagues

In addition to betting on the NFL, there are a variety of other leagues where football is played. The first and foremost is college football, which holds a significant place in America and produces many future stars for the NFL.

You can also place sports bets on football in other countries. This includes leagues such the GFL (German Football League) or the AFL (Austrian Football League). Both leagues are exciting. Football betting providers also include matches from these leagues in their offerings.

Another league is the Canadian Football League (CFL), which of course is still just as popular as the NFL here in Canada. In 2022, the Grey Cup took place between The Argos and The Blue Bombers, with the Toronto Argonauts coming out on top.

NFL Moneylines & Parlays

The moneyline is a straightforward choice for who you think will be the final winner of the game. A positive odd for a team means they're the favourite to win a negative odd means they're the underdog.
Of course positive odds pay more than negative ones.

Patriots: -200
Bengals: +150

Your bet: $100

The Patriots are favoured in this game. If you place a C$100 on the Patriots and they won, you'd walk away with a C$50 profit. On the other hand, if you bet C$100 on the underdog Bengals and they manage to pull off the upset, you'd earn a C$150 profit.

With parlays are all about combing multiple bets into one. Why do this? because the odds from each bet get combined to give you out of this world payouts. You can combine different moneylines, over/under's and even props. Remember though, if one leg of your parlay falters, you lose the whole thing!

Cowboys over Lions (+110)

Saints over Giants (+120)

This parlay consists of two moneylines with odds of -110 and -120, combining for +250 odds. If you place a bets of C$100 on those two fights in a parlay, you would win C$250.

NFL Prop & Futures betting

Prop bets, short for proposition bets, is when a bettor wagers on specific events or performances within a game.

Examples of props for individual performances:

Number of yards
a wide receiver records
total touchdowns a quarterback will throw
How many tackles a safety will achieve

Examples of props for team performances:

Total number of receptions
they make in a game
Total downs a team makes

Futures are placing wagers on long-term outcomes, such as the Super Bowl winner, MVP, Coach of the year, ROY, etc.

Odds can be really high for futures, especially if you correctly predict an underdog team victorious.

Live Betting on the NFL

The competition among teams in the NFL is intense, with several squads being considered favourites. This can make it challenging to make a bet, especially when strong teams face each other. However, with live betting, you can observe the game's unfolding dynamics in the first quarter before placing your bet.

The odds for NFL live betting frequently fluctuate. For instance, if one team scores the first touchdown, their chances of winning increase while the opponent falls behind, leading to higher odds for a victory. Secure higher odds on the favored team at that moment to maximize your potential winnings.

The in's and out's to Football

The offense's main goal is to score points. The quarterback is like the leader of the offense, throwing passes, handing off the ball to running backs, or even running with it. The quarterback's targets are wide receivers, tight ends, and sometimes running backs. The offensive line, which includes players like the center, guards, tackles, and tight ends, protects the quarterback from the opposing defense.

Basically, the offense tries to gain yards and carry the ball into the end zone. A play ends when the ball carrier is tackled or when the quarterback's pass hits the ground or goes out of bounds. The offense has four attempts, called "downs", to move the ball 10 yards (30 feet) and get a fresh set of downs. If they don't succeed, the other team gets the ball.

When an offensive player brings the ball into the opponent's end zone, they score a touchdown, earning 6 points for their team.

The defense is on the field when the other team's offense has the ball. Their job is to prevent the opposing team from scoring. The primary objective is to stop the offense from getting a new set of downs as quickly as possible.

Ideally, the defense can take possession of the ball by intercepting a poorly thrown pass or by causing a fumble and recovering it. It's rare but possible for defensive players to score a touchdown themselves in these situations.

Special Teams

Special teams are responsible for kicking the ball. When the offense reaches their fourth and final down, they usually choose to either punt the ball deep into the opponent's end or attempt a field goal. A successful field goal is worth 3 points and is attempted when the team is relatively close to the opponent's end zone. If they're not in a good position for a field goal, they punt the ball to give the other team a longer field to work with. After a touchdown, the team can kick an extra point for 1 more point.
